Seriously, Watch This Before Your Next Exam

Summary

You don’t fail exams because you’re bad at test-taking. You fail because your preparation started too late and stayed too shallow.

Most students attend lectures, take notes, highlight, reread — then blank under exam stress. Not from lack of effort (some work more hours and score lower), but from staying at the wrong layers of learning.

The 5 layers of learning

  1. Remembering — can I recall the facts?
  2. Understanding — can I explain it in my own words?
  3. Applying — can I use it in a problem / case?
  4. Analyzing — can I break it down and see relationships?
  5. Evaluating — can I judge, compare, choose the best option?

(A 6th, creation, is for assignments/essays.)

The gap: flashcards, summaries, and highlighting only build layers 1–2. Exams test applying, analyzing, evaluating (3–5). Your prep system must climb the layers from week one — use the exam as the final test, not the first real one. Preparation does not start during exam week.
