Belly Fat Isn’t About Doing More Cardio

Belly fat isn’t about doing more cardio.
A 7-rule protocol for losing belly fat that pushes back on the “more cardio” approach:
- Eat carbs — low-carb diets crash cortisol higher than any other food group, and cortisol is the belly-fat storage hormone. Eat 150-250g of carbs daily (jasmine rice, sweet potato, oats, banana, raspberries); most stuck adults are eating ~50g.
- Walk after meals — 10 minutes after every meal (3 walks, 30 min daily) drops post-meal blood sugar ~50%. Sitting triggers the storage process; walking prevents it.
- Cut alcohol — belly fat is where alcohol stores first and leaves last. 90 days off: 6-10lbs of bloat gone, deeper sleep, cortisol down ~25%, cravings gone by day 21.
- Sleep 8 hours — 5-6 hours raises cortisol ~25%. Phone in the kitchen at 9pm, cold dark room, magnesium glycinate 400mg, in bed by 10pm. One bad night locks belly fat in for 7 days.
- Eat 50g of protein at breakfast — 3 whole eggs + 4 egg whites + Greek yogurt + raspberries (~56g, 7 minutes). Prevents the 11am crash that drives afternoon snacking.
- Stop crunches — you can’t spot reduce. Compound lifts build the deep core; squats and deadlifts hit it harder than any plank. 500 crunches isn’t on the list.
- Get bloodwork — if you’ve cut for 6 months with no budge, check fasting insulin (<8), A1C (<5.4), cortisol AM, sex hormones, and thyroid (free T3, reverse T3). Stubborn fat at that stage is often hormonal, not caloric — sometimes you need to eat more, not less.
The 7 belly fat rules: eat carbs, walk after meals, cut alcohol, sleep 8 hours, 50g protein at breakfast, stop crunches, get bloodwork.
Key Points
- 7 rules to attack belly fat: the whole-body approach (carbs, walking, alcohol, sleep, protein breakfast, no crunches, bloodwork).
- Central claim: cutting carbs and upping cardio aren’t the answer — hormones (cortisol, sleep) drive belly-fat storage.
