5 Tools to Level Up Your NotebookLM Workflow

Framing: NotebookLM is the best AI research/learning tool right now, but three frictions show up at scale — getting sources in, managing many notebooks, and exporting/editing outputs.
1. NoKit LM — source ingestion (+ the standout)
Chrome extension focused on getting content into NotebookLM:
- Free: sync ChatGPT conversations directly as sources, import whole YouTube playlists at once, pull RSS feeds.
- Premium: chapter-aware book import (detects a book’s table of contents — notably for EPUBs), studio batch generation + batch download of outputs, deep-research sync (brings a GPT deep-research report plus its cited sources).
- Standout feature: AI chat sync. A “Sync to NotebookLM” button appears inside ChatGPT/Claude/Gemini; the full conversation comes over as one source with user/assistant structure preserved — you can keep working with an AI conversation inside NotebookLM, which none of the other tools do.
- Entry points: extension pop-up (pick account/notebook, then Basic URL / Smart extract / Full-page PDF) and a batch-import management page (adds a bulk-add link inside the NotebookLM source panel).
2. NotebookLM to PDF — proper export layer
- Adds an export button inside NotebookLM: sources panel offers four formats, merge-or-separate options.
- Chat export is the differentiator: toggle whether your own prompts are included and whether citations are shown; output keeps conversational layout (questions red-accented, answers blue), and highlights/citation numbers/clickable links survive — clicking a citation jumps to the source.
- Catch: only three free exports total, then paid (price moved since recording — check site).
3. Sponsor block — editing visual outputs via a PDF editor
Problem first: NotebookLM slides/infographics are flattened images wearing a .pdf/.pptx filename — not editable layers. Fix = OCR + layout recognition to reconstruct an editable file:
- Generate slides in presenter format, with instructions steering toward clean layouts (he shares six guided prompts — linked in description).
- Run OCR on the exported page (enable text-in-picture detection), get an editable version — retext, de-watermark, or strip text and reuse a nice layout as a design base.
- Tool name is spoken/garbled in auto-captions as just “PDF…” (promo code
PDQF15); Windows/Mac/iPhone, free + paid tiers. (Sponsored segment — flagged.)
4. TextLM — workspace layer (folders + tags)
Browser capture plus a full management dashboard:
- Pop-up: add current page to any notebook, or scan a page’s links and pick which to import. Honest test result: link-scanning is noisy — a course collection produced ~100 detected links (filters/nav counted) and several imports landed as error items. For real course grabs he points to his Claude Code scraping video instead.
- Dashboard: notebook overview, per-type pages (sources/notes/audio), live fetch on open.
- Killer org feature: folder trees for notebooks (with subfolders), synced back into NotebookLM after refresh; tags carry name/emoji/color/description, filterable from the action bar — think folders = broad buckets, tags = describing what things are.
- Chat→PDF export included, but drops source references (NotebookLM to PDF wins there).
5. NotebookLM Tools — the free power-user kit
Claims ~35 built-in tools, 80k+ users, 4.7★ — largest NotebookLM-focused extension reviewed:
- Notebooks organized by tags (tag manager, filter-by-tag); folders exist but apply to sources, auto-splitting by type (PDF/text/web), plus custom folders, multi-move, labels and auto-labeling (labels generated from source topics).
- Prompt library: save prompts with category + short title, recall by typing
/shortcut in NotebookLM; capture flow = select text → right-click → add selection to notebook → copy into prompt library. - Almost everything core is free — Pro mainly removes interruption banners.
