Hi everyone, this is Kim and welcome to our free master class wherein I’ll be sharing to you how you can launch your profitable digital product just using Canva even if you are a total beginner and I’ll be sharing to you a step-by-step guide on how to get started on this online business without spending anything.

This is not a get-rich-quick scheme and definitely not networking. I’ll be showing to you the real strategies and the right way how to use the free tools to build a long-term online business.

About the Speaker

I am Princess Kim Ranoco. I have Princess in my name and I am a licensed electronics engineer from the Philippines. I used to work as an engineer for almost 5 years and I started digital product selling as a side hustle before when I was working as an engineer. After almost 7 months, I was able to resign from my corporate job and I’ve been doing this for almost 16 months already and this is the best decision I’ve ever made.

This requires hard work and consistency. I’ll be sharing to you my journey as a digital product seller when I started until where I am right now.

Kim’s Journey

It all started as me who is working as an engineer for almost 5 years. I had this idea that I could really earn a lot if I work so hard as an engineer and I get promoted. I’m going to have a big salary — which is really not true. If you are from the Philippines, you will understand that the salary here is not big enough even if you are an engineer. I have that mindset. A situation happened wherein I had to become a breadwinner of my family. I have to pay everything for my family, even the tuition fee of my sister who is in college already. My engineering salary is really not enough to sustain everything. I really need to do something. I really need a change to get extra income.

So while working as an engineer with a 12-hour shift job, I looked for opportunities online. I tried freelancing but I always get rejected because I don’t have much experience. I also did part-time jobs like ESL or English second language teacher and I was able to do that one but it ended up affecting my health because I’m teaching kids — it needs a lot of effort and energy to teach them right. When I got sick, the doctor told me that I should stop teaching or else I will not recover, my health will be in danger or get worsened. So I stopped that one.

I realized if I want to earn more income, I should choose a hustle wherein it will not affect much of my time, it will not lead me to bad health. That’s the time I also discovered digital product selling using Canva. I was amazed at the idea that it can let you earn passive income because the business is automated. I was thinking probably even if I’m working at a 12-hour shift job, if I do this one, I can still earn extra income.

That’s the time I took it seriously because I think this one fits my schedule. I did it seriously. I learned from it. Even if I’m tired after work, I surely make time to learn this one. The rest is history.

The Potential

I was able to earn extra income from that one. And then later on after 7 months, I decided that I will quit my engineering job because I was able to get a consistent six-figure earnings. I decided I’m going to do this one full-time. And here I am right now, still doing digital product selling using Canva and planning to open some physical shops. Doing some investments already and also teaching people how to get started in digital product selling.

I usually encounter this question: “Can digital products really make you a lot of money?” My answer is yes. I’ll give you a simple example. This is a product — a story book, a digital product that I created last year which generates me already six figures. Imagine that — one product I created once and sell it many, many times. I’m not selling only one product. I have a lot of products in my shop. And the thing here is I’m not selling in one selling platform or site. I sell in different selling platforms like Etsy, Rocket Peach, Gumroad, and many more.

For example, I’m selling on Rocket Peach and I already earned millions on that one. I even got featured as a top seller from that site and featured as someone who earned millions already. So imagine you have a lot of products you are selling on many platforms — you will reach a lot of people, for sure you will earn a lot of money in digital product selling.

Why I Love Digital Product Selling

The very first reason is: it works even when I am at work. Even if I’m working on my 12-hour shift job, this business is generating income. I realize that even I’m working for my company, my business is also working for myself.

The second one is: I finally got to leave a toxic job. Working as an engineer especially in a manufacturing company, you need to attend issues and problems from your work. So even if you are at home, you will receive phone calls to resolve issues.

Third is: I have more time for people that matter — my family, my loved ones. I can spend more time with them on special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, which before I wasn’t able to do because I needed to work and it was very hard for me to file a leave.

Lastly: it gave me the real freedom — financially, mentally, and emotionally. I can focus more on myself and the people that matter. I was able to work out. I was able to travel. I was able to improve myself because I have much time after resigning from my corporate job. I’m just at home and I’m really loving the situation that I have right now.

The best thing that I really love about digital product selling is I was able to travel to different countries because of digital product selling. I did not experience that when I was working as an engineer.

What is a Digital Product?

A digital product is something you can buy or sell online but it’s not a physical item. When we say physical item, these are the items that you can touch like this mouse — this is a physical item. But digital products you cannot touch — they exist in digital form like an ebook, music, or video, and you can use them on your electronic devices like phones, computers, tablets, iPads, or laptops.

Examples of digital products you probably use in your daily life:

  • Ebooks — reading a book through a PDF file
  • Music — what you listen to on Spotify
  • Digital art
  • Games and applications — like Facebook, Instagram, Threads
  • Membership templates — pre-designed documents, presentations, or websites that you can customize
  • Even this free master class that you are watching right now is a digital product

What is Canva?

Canva is an online design tool that allows you to create a wide range of digital products. You can create a digital product using Canva. Since it’s an online design tool, it requires an internet connection for you to use it. Canva is a beginner-friendly site wherein you can create your own digital product from scratch and it also has built-in templates that you can customize. It’s really beginner-friendly. It’s easy to use.

If you’re thinking “Miss Kim, I tried Canva but I find it hard to use” — that’s very normal. If it’s your first time using Canva, especially editing, it can be quite hard. But compared to other design tools like Illustrator or other Adobe editing tools, Canva is the easiest. I highly suggest this one for beginners who really don’t have any experience in editing. You can start using Canva for free. You don’t have to pay anything.

Once you learn how to use Canva, it allows you to easily create high-quality, customizable digital products that can be sold online to a global audience with minimal cost and effort.

Setting Up Your Canva Account

Right now, I want you to create your free account in Canva. Just follow this tutorial. Go to your internet browser and navigate to canva.com. Here is the Canva website. Click “Log in.” We have two options here. You can choose making an account using your Google account. Just click “Continue with Google” — it’s really up to you, but the faster way is to use your Google account. Then choose a Google account that you want to sign in with. Just click continue.

It will show you “Try Canva Pro for free” — just ignore this and close it. Now you already have your Canva free account.

Advantages of Selling Digital Products

  1. Low overhead cost — Since it’s in digital form, you don’t need inventory. You don’t need shipping or manufacturing. That means once you have a sale on that product, everything is profit. No need to deduct for inventory, shipping costs, or manufacturing costs.

  2. Scalability — I have one product. I created it once but I was able to sell it many times and generate even six-figure sales on that one product. Imagine you create this product and you can sell it an unlimited number of times without additional effort or cost.

  3. Global reach — You can sell to anyone because we are selling online. Unlike physical products — for example, if you sell clothing and someone from the US is interested, but you’re from the Philippines — shipping would cost a lot, be a hassle, take a lot of time. But since you are selling digital products, you can sell to anyone because it’s online and they get access right away. They don’t need shipping.

  4. Passive income — When I started this as a side hustle, I was working a 12-hour shift job, but my online shop was still generating income because once you create a product and list it on a selling platform, the platform can generate passive income because everything is automated. Your customer can purchase from your online shop even if you don’t do anything — once they purchase, they get instant access automatically and you earn.

The Digital Product Selling Process

There are four steps you have to perform in order to sell digital products. It’s essential to follow these steps carefully. Without them, your business may struggle to succeed. Some people don’t understand the process of selling digital products, so some of them failed on that one. Fortunately, you were able to attend this master class, so you will be aware of the exact process.

Step 1: Select a Niche and Choose a Product to Sell

When we say a niche, you have to consider a topic or a group of people with the same interest and you will try to solve the problem — what are the needs or issues of that certain topic or people. You’re going to resolve that, give them a solution through a digital product. Once you are able to identify your niche, that’s the time you can create your own digital product. Your product will be very useful to this target audience. You can be sure that someone would really purchase your product because you know this is the solution to a certain issue in that niche.

Step 2: Product Creation

This is the time that you can create your digital product using Canva. Since you are aware who your target audience is, you can align how you design and create your digital product. If your target audience are teachers, the digital product should be professional and aligned for teachers. If your target audience are kids, the product should be kid-friendly, colorful, with attractive illustrations.

Step 3: Listing on Selling Platforms

Create your shop. In this free master class, I’ll be discussing the files you have to prepare, the images you have to create, so that you can list them on selling platforms. Once you list it on a selling platform, you have already automated your business because your customer can visit your shop, purchase, and get instant access. That’s why it’s automated.

Step 4: Marketing and Product Promotion

Once you have a product listed in an online shop with everything automated, that’s the time we have to make sure our shop is functional by bringing many people to our shop through marketing and product promotion. It’s very essential to do number four, especially if you are a beginner. You’re like a mushroom — you just came out and nobody knows about you. Nobody knows that your product exists. That’s why we have to do marketing and product promotion so people will be aware that your product exists. You can bring a lot of traffic towards your shop. No matter how nice your product is, no matter how functional your shop is, if you don’t bring people to check your product, it’s going to be useless.

Free Tools for Each Step

For Step 1 (Selecting a Niche): ChatGPT

You can use ChatGPT to help you. ChatGPT is free. You can try navigating to chat.openai.com. Even without signing up or logging in, you can use it.

Consider what niche would you like to select. For example, pet owners. You can ask: “Who are my target audience in this niche?” Or “What is the digital product that I can create? How can this product solve the problem of my target audience?” ChatGPT will give you an idea and assist you with more information.

You can also access the file below this video which contains a list of niches based on topic and people. For example:

  • Health and Wellness — target audience: individuals looking to improve physical health and financial success
    • Product ideas: fitness ebook guide, budgeting for healthy eating, wellness investment guides

For Step 2 (Product Creation): Canva + ChatGPT

We still use Canva to create digital products from scratch or use the built-in templates. As a free user, you can get started creating your own digital product. We’ll also ask ChatGPT for content, grammar improvement, and ideas on what to include to make our product optimized and helpful to our target audience.

For Step 3 (Shop Creation & Automation): Free Selling Platforms

We’re going to list our products on selling platforms like Etsy, Gumroad, System.io, Rocket Peach. If you want a selling platform that won’t ask you to pay anything, there are free selling platforms like Gumroad and Rocket Peach. If you want to create your own sales funnel, you can use System.io.

You also need to prepare mockup images (which I’ll show you how to do using Canva), product titles, and product descriptions. We can ask ChatGPT for help with that too.

For Step 4 (Marketing): Social Media + ChatGPT

I’ll introduce social media marketing. You can post on Pinterest, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook — because these are free. We can ask ChatGPT for our social media content. We can also create beautiful illustrations, posts, or even edit videos using Canva.

As you can see, Canva is very useful on the entire digital product selling business. That’s why I always tell everyone to understand how to use Canva — because in the entire business, you have to use Canva. Once you understand how to optimize Canva, you can run the business smoothly.

Two Types of Niche

  1. Niche based on a topic — focusing on a specific subject like health and wellness, religion, etc.
  2. Niche based on people — targeting a group of people like teachers and tutors, college students, kids and moms

We cannot sell to everybody. We need to focus on a certain group of people where we understand their needs and interests so that we can solve their problems.

Example: If your selected niche is “health and wealth” (based on topic), your target audience would be individuals looking to improve both their physical health and financial success. The digital product you could create would be a fitness ebook guide focusing on budgeting for healthy eating, wellness investment guides that solve their problem of spending time researching by providing all the information they need in one place.

What’s Next

Now we finished discussing step number one — selecting a niche and choosing a product to sell. Let’s now head on to creating your own digital product using Canva (step number two — product creation). We’ll prepare the product that we’re going to sell. You don’t have to spend anything — just use your free Canva account and create your own product from scratch or use free built-in templates in Canva. That’s zero cost.

There’s also another option for those who don’t want to create from scratch — you can purchase digital products that have resell rights. It means you are allowed to resell them. The spend on this one depends on the product price.
